Course Structure
OUR BLENDED TRAINING COURSES ARE DESIGNED TO BE COMPLETED AT A COMFORTABLE PACE! THE
LENGTH OF THE COURSE DEPENDS ON WHICH COURSE YOU SELECT. EACH TOURISM COURSE INCLUDES:
- Online Theory Classes: Conducted after hours to accommodate students’ schedules.
- Initial Practical Culture Tour or Practical Adventure Excursion:
Culture Guides includes a tour with workbook assessments and practical work on planning and conducting of tours. Adventure Guides attend three initial practical weekend excursions, or one initial practical holiday excursion. - Continuous Formative Assessments: Includes two written tests, module workbooks & assignments.
- Practical Experience Requirements: Complete hands-on
experience as a Culture Guide, with logged hours counting towardAdventure Guide requirements. - Summative Assessment Tour/Excursion: Conducted after theoretical and practical requirements are met.
- Continuous Mentorship & Career Advancement: For those interested in building a career or business as a Tourist Guide or Tour Operator, and receiving continued support for networking.
- First Aid Training: Level 1 for Culture Guides, Levels 1-3 for Adventure Guides.
What is RPL:
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is a process that allows individuals with relevant experience, skills, and knowledge—gained through informal or non-formal learning—to obtain formal recognition without undergoing full training programs. In the context of tourist guiding, RPL enables experienced guides or industry professionals to have their competencies assessed against accredited qualifications, such as the FETC: Tourist Guiding (SAQA 71549).
Through the RPL course, candidates can demonstrate their expertise in guiding, cultural, nature or adventure. This will, allow them to fast-track their registration and certification. This process supports career advancement, encourages lifelong learning, and ensures that skilled professionals contribute to a high-quality tourism experience in South Africa. This will be for the full FETC 71549 qualification.
